Our Approach
Janice M. Butler
Janice has approximately 20 years of experience in the accounting profession. Starting in public accounting at the "Big" accounting firms, she has been responsible for planning, supervising, and reviewing various audit engagements. Janice then went to a local New York City accounting firm where she performed audit and taxation services to a variety of clients.
After seven years in public accounting, Janice transitioned to corporate accounting at a Fortune 300 Company starting as an Analyst and then Accounting Manager. Janice then became a Controller directing the accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
Our Story
While working in corporate accounting, Janice started teaching as an adjunct at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. Janice teaches the courses Federal Income Taxation and Government and Not-For-Profit Accounting. Janice continued teaching by completing a two-year special appointment as an Associate Professor of Accounting at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT. It was her goal to work in the accounting industry prior to teaching to be able to share experiences with students.
Janice also uses her experience to assist individuals and businesses with their accounting and taxation needs. Janice holds a BS in accounting and biology from Albertus Magnus College, a MBA from Quinnipiac University, and post-graduate certificate in taxation from the University of Hartford. In addition to being a certified public accountant, Janice is a certified internal auditor. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Teaching
Janice Butler is an instructor of accounting at the University of Hartford. She has been teaching for the last ten years. The University of Hartford Barney School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business placing it in the top 5 percent of all business schools. Some of her classes were also taught at Mt. St. Mary College, Western Connecticut University and Dutchess Community College. Janice loves providing students with real world experience as she teaches them accounting principles and techniques.

Volunteerism
Janice is a former member of the Sandy Hook Fire and Rescue Ladies Auxilliary for four years. She is a strong supporter of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and frequently volunteer for Memorial Weekend that annually honors firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
Janice comes from a family of fire fighters and she loves to continue her family committment to this wonderful organization.
Janice's Volunteer Work
When Janice is not working, she enjoys working within the community. After the tragic event at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012, Janice volunteered and offered her accounting services to newly forming non-profits within the Newtown community. As a volunteer Janice set up the accounting system, procedures and maintained the books for non-profits. She is the Treasurer for the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Friends of Newtown Park and Bark, a member of the Sandy Hook Fire and Rescue Ladies' Auxiliary, and a former alternate member of the Newtown Board of Ethics. She is Treasurer and board member of the Working Women's Forum.
